Systematics Section / ASPT Hinchliff, Cody [1], Carey, Tim [1], Roalson, Eric [1]. Phylogenetic relationships in Eleocharis (Cyperaceae): comparisons with classification, morphology, biogeography, and physiology. ELEOCHARIS (Cyperaceae) is a well demarcated genus and includes approximately 254 species with a world-wide distribution. Here we explore the phylogenetic patterns of diversification in Eleocharis using a large nrDNA internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) data set and multiple chloroplast spacer regions on a global scale. On this phylogeny, we are exploring congruence of the phylogenetic hypothesis with previous classifications, potential morphological synapomorphies for clades, biogeographic patterns within and among clades, and patterns of variation in carbon fixation mechanisms among species. Further, we will explore the phylogenetic position of the related genera Websteria and Egleria. Log in to add this item to your schedule
